Trip Introduction

The Muktinath Temple is well-known among Hindu and Buddhist travelers because it is a Vishnu Temple, which Hindus believe is a Mukti Kshetra. It means the Place of Redemption. For Buddhists, Muktinath is where the great Guru Rinpoche, came to meditate, who brought Buddhism to Tibet.

It is one of the world’s highest temples, situated at a height of 3,800m. 108 holy water spouts are flowing with cold water where worshippers take a short bath in the belief that all their sins would be wiped away.

If you manage to be in Muktinath in early September, you will most likely be in time for one of Nepal’s most distinctive traditions, the annual Yartung horse race. This is a week of serious horse racing in Tibetan style. Jomsom is a small town located at the base of the Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri mountains. It is located within the Annapurna Conservation Area. It has a varied landscape. It is 25 km from Muktinath. You may learn about the lifestyles of many ethnic communities.
