Introduction:

Tsum Valley trekking, one of few restricted areas in Nepal it was opened past two decades ago, as the country of Tsum also falls close to the border of Tibet, where ancient Trans Himalaya Caravan and Salt Trade Route Trail passed through the valley of Tsum.

Jugal Holidays presents a wonderful scenic and cultural adventure walks in our exceptional program the Tsum Valley trekking, an outmost region located beyond Nepal North Mid-West Himalaya fan and above Gorkha district, situated behind massif Ganesh and Manaslu Himalaya range of mountains.

Tsum a valley of great happiness as translated from old Tibetan word called ‘Beyul Kyamlung’ certainly a marvelous place to visit once in your lifetime for exciting and superb experience where walk takes you into remote isolated villages and monasteries of great interest with spectacular views of high snow capped peaks.

Tsum Valley Trekking begins from Kathmandu taking an exciting and interesting drive to reach at warm low farm areas of Gorkha district, where walk follows on the same trail of Manaslu circuit route for some days, then heading further north east to reach around Tsum Valley.

An interesting walks from low sub-tropical temperatures to reach cooler green hills covered with dense alpine tree lines of rhododendron, pines, oaks and firs as walk proceeds past nice lovely villages of Tatopani, Maccha-Khola and Jagat all villages with neat tended farm terraces.

Slowly our adventure leaves behind the main trails of Manaslu heading towards Tsum into the valley of happiness, crossing bridges with climb facing exciting views of tall mountains that lines the southern horizon, as walk takes you to impressive villages of Chumling, Chokan Paro to reach at Nele an impressive village.

Enjoying soaking into local fascinating cultures of Buddhism where villagers almost follow the same ritual and heritage life similar to Tibetans as the border to Tibet at mere distance from high places of Tsum Valley.

Finally journey reaches you at our main destination at Mu-Gompa with an old and main monastery of the region, in the shadow of giant snow-capped peaks that you can overlook from this strange and exciting spot of Mu-Gompa and then highest point of the adventure also.

From Mu-Gompa slowly our journey comes to near end visiting best of lovely villages of Tsum Valley then on downhill trail to reach back at Jagat and other lower warm land around farm villages to reach at Soti-Khola where our walk completes.

Enjoying great time around high and remote corners of Nepal Far North Mid-West then ending our marvelous adventure Tsum Valley Trekking taking an exciting and scenic drive back to Kathmandu with glorious moments and experience.

Best time and season for Tsum Valley Trekking:

The best time in spring season from April and May as well during autumn in September till early November months, April to May where days are warm with enough day lights cold in the morning and late afternoon till night time, can expect snow sometimes on high hills and over the pass.

September to early November best with clear fine days for views and pleasant walks but short sun-light hours due to autumn season, much colder morning till night times can expect snow sometimes during walks on higher altitude areas.

Day 01: On arrival at Kathmandu airport 1,340 m meet our staff and transfer to hotel.

Day 02: At Kathmandu with options for tour with time for trek preparations. 

Day 03: Drive to Soti Khola 730 m via Arughat 570 m – 08 hrs journeys.

Day 04: Trek to Machha Khola 930 m – 06 hrs.

Day 05: Trek to Dovan 1,410 m via Tatopani (Hot Spring) – 06 hrs.

Day 06: Trek to Jagat 1,340 m – 05 hrs.

Day 07: Trek to Philim 1,590 m – 05 hrs
Day 08: Trek to Lokpa 2,200m – 05 hrs
Day 09: Trek to Chumling 2,386 m – 06 hrs.
Day 10: Trek to Chokan-Paro 3,010 m – 05 hrs.
Day 11: Trek to Nele 3,361m after a visit of Milereppa cave – 07 hrs.
Day 12: Trek to Mu Gompa 3,700 m – 04 hrs.
Day 13: Rest day at Mu Gompa visit local village and monastery.
Day 14: Trek to Rachen Gompa 3,240 m – 05 hrs.
Day 15: Trek back to Chumling 2,386 m – 06 hrs.
Day 16: Trek to Lokpa 2,200m – 06 hrs.
Day 17: Trek to Philim 1,590 m – 05 hrs.
Day 18: Trek to Tatopani (Hot Spring) – 05 hrs.
Day 19: Trek to Soti-Khola 700 m- 05 hrs.
Day 20: Drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel -06 hrs.
Day 21: International departure for home ward bound.

Day 1

Landing at Kathmandu and Nepal international airport, where our guide or staff receives you for short drive to your respective hotels in the hub of Kathmandu.

After checking into your nice rooms with rest after a jet-lag, and then rendezvous with other group member of Tsum Valley Trekking, our guide will brief you with information regarding the treks, about hotels and lodge with Nepalese culture, do’s and don’ts.

Evening enjoy grand welcome dinner in typical Nepalese restaurants with various native cultures as entertainment.

Day 2

At Kathmandu as free day where one can join in our interesting sightseeing tour as options, as the capital Kathmandu of Nepal steeped with historical and religious monuments of world heritage sites.

Afternoon at leisure and preparation for Tsum Valley Trek, starting next early morning with exciting overland journey to Nepal Mid-West.

Day 3

Tsum Valley trek starts with early morning drive to Nepal Mid West, where journey 

lead on main Nepal highway past many interesting towns and villages with farms to reach at 

Gorkha district in Arughat.

 

From here continue drive following raging Burigandaki River upstream on warm-low areas of 

paddy fields and terraces to reach at Soti-Khola for first overnight stop of the adventure. 

Day 4

Beginning our first day walks from Soti-Khola, route takes you to steep valley, within thick forested areas past number of small villages that dots green hillside, and then walking into a wide valley opposite near a large tributary stream that joins Burigandaki River. 

Nice views of cultivated terrace of Lap-Besi upper village as walk descends to a wide, sandy riverbed following a trail that meanders below a steep, craggy valley side. 

As walk progress leading to a climb towards Machha Khola for overnight stop, a village with number of teashops and small lodge, Maccha Khola means a Fish Stream.

Day 5

From here onward encountering many interesting farm villages and neat cultivated fields as  vegetation changes slowly due to altitude and climate wise, as our morning walk leads to cross over a stream where Machha Khola (Fish stream) name comes from, and then walk upstream towards Khola-Bensi village with Tatopani a place with natural ‘hot spring’. 

As walk continues where valley becomes much narrow and steeper, where our trail switches to left bank of the river and then crossing a suspension bridge, after a short period of walk entering patch of forest and then reaching at Dovan located on the high shelf of Burigandaki River.

Day 6

Morning walk leads across broad field towards Lauri stream then crossing bridge that leads to a climb on high trails and then descend into an open valley of Yara Khola, where our journey continues on for another hour to the village of Jagat.

Jagat a nice looking farm village of moderate size after Arughat; people here with mix race Magar, Chettries, Brahman, Manaslu Bhotia (Tibetan looking tribes) and some Newar people a lodge owner and shopkeepers.

Day 7

Walk from Jagat descend to long stone steps to reach a river, where path climbs on terraced hillside at Saguleri, with distance view of Sringi Himal 7,187m, walk continue with ups and down trail as our route reach at a bridge over Buri-Gandaki.

After crossing over a bridge where our trail winds up to reach at Philim village for overnight stop with time for short walks and to observe this nice farm village with rich cultivated fields and terraces.

Day 8

After refreshing overnight stop at Philim, walk from here leads higher past scattered farm villages with climb through terraces of golden fields of wheat’s and barley to reach a rocky ridge top covered within bamboo forest area towards Eklai Bhatti means a lonely Inn, at present few more shops has been come up.

After a rest walk towards Lokpa, where route divert towards North East and away from main trail of Manaslu circuit to reach at Lokpa, morning walk leads with some down section entering into sheer cliff walls, after this dramatic section as our route continue on much better path to reach at Deng village, where houses and terrains completely changes of more Tibetan like from here onward. 

After a short good rest a few hours walk to Lokpa a small village for overnight stop, here people are more of Tibetan origin with ancient Buddhist culture.

Day 9

After Lokpa village, walk heads to our first highlights of the adventure at Tsum known as the valley of happiness, as our route enters narrow gorge then with short descend and uphill climb into rhododendron and pine tree forest walking past small farm villages then climbing above Lungwa Khola to reach at Chumling village for first night stop around Tsum Valley.

Day 10

From here onward enter new fresh country and away from main trekking trails of Manaslu as walk leads towards Tsum in the valley of happiness.

Walk further past farm lands and smaller villages facing views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal, as walk ends on reaching a nice village at Chumling for overnight halt.

Day 11

From here onward walk leads within Tsum valley, as morning lead towards highest areas to Nele village around open and exposed wide valley, a dramatic dry and windswept terrain with similar landscapes like Tibet plateau.

Entering into a country where tree lines fades for short juniper and willow trees, as journey continues overlooking views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal range of peaks.

Finally completing our day-walk reaching at Nele village where you can explore a meditation cave of great Buddhist saint ‘Guru Milereppa’ of 11th century, he was a poet, singer and a high tantric guru where his folk stories and words of wisdom with songs are still remembered by Tibetans and followers of Milereppa.

Day 12

Today a short walk to reach at the end our trip at Tsum Valley reaching Mu Gompa, with an old impressive monastery, walk leads to a climb within high, dry exposed terrain with views of high peaks then slowly walk ends on reaching at Mu Gompa for overnight stop.

Day 13

At Mu Gompa with full day to enjoy walk around scenic country, where few trekkers often visits around remote area of Tsum Valley, here with time to experience traditional custom of Tsum people and visit of impressive and ancient monastery at Mu Gompa, enriched with old idols, statue and religious relics.

Day 14

After an interesting and exciting moment around high Tsum valley, walk heads to visit Rachen Gumpa, as walk follows on gradual trail with short few ups and downs with panorama of snow capped peaks, heading into yak grazing summer pasture to reach at Rachen Gompa and its moderate size village for overnight stop.

Day 15

Return journey having wonderful time at high Tsum valley, where walk leads towards lower areas to Chumling where our route gets back into tall tree lines within green vegetation at Chumling village, for last and final overnight in Tsum Valley area.

Day 16

After a great time around Tsum valley visiting undisturbed and untouched villages by outside world where few trekkers seldom visits, farewell to the country of fascinating scenery and culture as walk takes you back on the same route to Lokpa village for overnight stop.

Day 17

From Lokpa village, morning on downhill following a river with views of waterfalls to reach at Samba, Tingding Chhupyang villages as our walk ends at Philim village for overnight stop. 

Philim a nice farm village with much cultivated farm terraces, here enjoy the village surrounding and its nice culture of traditional farm life.

Day 18

From Philim walk downhill into much warmer area within paddy fields, after breakfast heading to Tatopani as route follows Buri Gandaki River past many small villages of Nagjet, Sidibas Bazaar and Jagat. 

Walk further descends at Yaruphant, then to lower area with dramatic change in vegetation, finally ending six hours walk to our overnight stop at Tatopani a small farm village with hot spring as Tatopani in Nepali means ‘hot water’, afternoon enjoy the hot springs and relax. The local believes that the spring water have a natural power to cure various disease and wounds.

Day 19

After a pleasant stop at Tatopani enjoying its hot spring, morning walk to Soti Khola following Budhi Gandaki River downstream, after hours of good walk reaching at Gurung village of Labubesi, from here walk further within terraced fields and waterfalls to reach our last overnight stop at Soti-khola.

Day 20

After a marvelous adventure on Tsum Valley completing our scenic walks taking a morning drive from Soti-Khola drive follows on dirt roald for sometimes past many farm villages and town, as route joins on the main highway of Kathmandu and Pokhara past Dhading area, from here on easy and interesting drive to reach back into hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu, with rest of the evening free at leisure in the hotel.

Day 21

After a wonderful time in Nepal with amazing time in high Himalayan mountains on Tsum Valley 

Trekking, with your last day in the country of amazing wide high Himalaya, our staff and guide transfers 

you to the airport for your flight back home or to next port of call.
