Halesi Mahadev is also known as “Matrika cave”. The Halesi Mahadev is located at a height of 1,460m in the Khotang district of Eastern Nepal. The cave lies 67 ft. below the land’s surface. It has been a popular religious place since ancient Time. The temple is highly important to Hindus, Buddhists, and Kiratas. The temple is located on the top of a tiny hill within a magnificent and mysterious natural cave. Two sacred rivers, the Dudh Koshi and the Sun Koshi, run through the temple. Halesi Mahadev is said to have existed for 6,000 years. Halesi Mahadev, three mystery caverns are said to be Lord Shiva’s three eyes.
Even though Pashupatinath is the most important Lord Shiva Temple for Hindus. Every year during Shivaratri, many devotees visit Haleshi Mahadev to worship Lord Mahadev because Halesi Mahadev is also nicknamed the “Pashupatinath of East”
